Color control
A slim wraparound color indicator positioned above the grip area displays the currently selected ink color. Artists could select and adjust colors through the Bluetooth-connected companion application.
A NEW WAY TO THINK ABOUT COLOR / 001
Exploring a new kind of drawing instrument. More creative possibilities. Fewer tools. Designed with artists and the environment in mind.
Explore the concept01 / ABOUT
What if one drawing instrument could give artists more colors, more freedom, and fewer supplies to carry?
Iropen is an emerging drawing instrument concept exploring customizable ink colors, refillable components, and a more accessible creative process.
Our goal is simple: support human creativity through thoughtful technology, while exploring ways to reduce material waste.
02 / THE INSTRUMENT
Iropen reimagines the traditional drawing pen as a streamlined, versatile instrument. Its proposed design combines physical drawing with precise digital color selection.
A slim wraparound color indicator positioned above the grip area displays the currently selected ink color. Artists could select and adjust colors through the Bluetooth-connected companion application.
Exploring refillable ink reservoirs, replaceable components, and durable construction to reduce reliance on disposable art supplies.
A proposed companion app brings together manual color selection, individual ink-level monitoring, saved palettes, and an optional AI assistant focused on color exploration.
INTERACTIVE CONCEPT / 01
Explore Iropen's proposed wraparound color display. Select an ink color, check the battery level, and experience how the display could respond during wireless charging.
Ready to draw
Simplified digital illustration. Not a physical prototype.
At 20% battery or below, the proposed display shows a battery alert over the selected color. A subtle vibration throughout the pen would also notify the artist. While charging, the display shows the battery percentage and charging status.
03 / HOW IT WORKS
At the heart of Iropen is a proposed internal ink-mixing system. Rather than requiring a separate pen for every shade, the concept explores combining foundational inks within a single drawing instrument.
THE COLOR SYSTEM
CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black). These four foundational printing colors can be combined in different proportions to produce a wide range of shades.
CMYK is a proposed starting point for Iropen's ink system. Achievable colors depend on ink formulation, mixing accuracy, and paper characteristics.
The proposed instrument would contain separate reservoirs for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink.
A refillable system could allow artists to replenish individual colors without replacing the entire drawing instrument.
A miniature fluid-control system would regulate the flow of ink from each reservoir. Selected proportions would be combined to produce a desired shade before the ink reaches the drawing tip.
Developing this mechanism would require research into miniature fluid channels, mixing precision, cleaning, and clog prevention.
Artists could choose a color through the companion app, connected through Bluetooth. The proposed software would translate supported selections into instructions for the pen's mixing system.
A wraparound indicator positioned above the grip area would display the active color, keeping it visible while drawing.
Once a color is selected, the artist would draw directly onto physical paper using actual ink.
Technology assists with color selection and delivery. The artwork itself remains the result of the artist's skill, decisions, and creative expression.
CONNECTIVITY / POWER
Iropen is envisioned to connect wirelessly to its companion app, allowing artists to manage colors, view ink levels, and monitor battery status.
A proposed flat wireless charging pad would power the instrument without requiring a traditional charging port.
The wraparound indicator could show the remaining battery percentage over the current color, accompanied by a subtle vibration alert when power is running low.
Iropen remains an early-stage invention concept. The internal ink-mixing mechanism and integrated electronics have not yet been physically demonstrated. Color accuracy, reservoir capacity, fluid control, cleaning, wireless charging, component dimensions, and material compatibility require prototyping and testing.
04 / THE COMPANION APP
Meet the proposed Iropen companion app: a place to explore colors, build palettes, and personalize your drawing experience.
Describe the atmosphere you're imagining. A misty forest, a nostalgic summer evening, or something entirely your own.
The optional AI companion would interpret your written description and suggest a coordinated color palette.
No artwork analysis. No image generation. The AI works with your written ideas, not your original drawings.
Explore color combinations inspired by a mood with the AI companion featured in the proposed app. This early interactive demo uses preset palettes rather than live AI. No artwork analysis or image generation, just a description of the atmosphere you're looking for.
This is a preset digital color demonstration, not a live AI service or a demonstration of physically achievable Iropen ink colors.
Choose colors yourself through a digital selector and save your favorite shades.
Describe a mood or atmosphere in words and receive optional color palette suggestions.
View estimated levels for each CMYK ink reservoir and receive refill reminders through the app.
Send supported color selections from the app to the physical pen over Bluetooth.
05 / DESIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Art supplies can be costly, bulky, and resource-intensive. Disposable markers and pens may contribute additional plastic and packaging waste.
Iropen aims to investigate an alternative through a durable instrument, refillable ink reservoirs, and replaceable components.
Recycled materials, repairability, ink chemistry, energy requirements, and product lifespan are important factors to explore during development.
Environmental benefits are design goals, not verified performance claims. Testing and lifecycle comparisons would be needed to determine Iropen's actual impact.
06 / THE STORY
Iropen began as an independent invention inspired by the cost, storage demands, and waste associated with traditional art supplies.
Originally developed for a business pitch competition, the concept continues to evolve through industrial design, material research, technical exploration, and software development.
Iropen is an early-stage concept. Features, materials, and performance remain subject to engineering development and testing.
